The author of this thread says there is no link proving that the CBI has discussed a lop for the dinar.

This article is from August of 2008. Here are the first few lines:

The Central Bank of Iraq has taken steps to rebase the Iraqi dinar and issue new banknotes, a senior official at the bank has said.
“We have reached a conclusion that we should take off three zeroes from the current Iraqi dinar banknotes,” Mudher Qasim, the bank’s senior advisor, told Dow Jones Newswires in an exclusive interview.

We can only hope that the CBI has changed its mind in the last two years and 5 months!

Great comment, Tony. They actually lowered the official inflation rate from 9% to 7% just recently – I think you’re on the right track.

COUNTRIES ONLY LOP ZEROS WHEN RUNAWAY INFLATION CANNOT BE STOPPED. IF IRAQ’S INFLATION WAS 20% TO 30% PER YEAR, THEY PROBABLY WOULD HAVE TO CONSIDER THE LOP, BUT THEIR INFLATION RATE IS DOWN TO 9% PER YEAR AND FALLING FAST, INFACT LAST MONTH IT WAS 3.5%.

IRAQ HAS THE STRONGEST CURRENCY IN THE WORLD, BECAUSE THERE NOT SUBJECT TO THE WORLD’S DEPRESSION. IN ADDITION, THE TREMENDOUS COST OF REPRINT (40 CENTS PER SCRIPT) AND THE SETBACK THAT THEY WOULD RECEIVE FROM THE “IMF” FOR LOPPING, WOULD NOT ALLOW THEM TO ENTER THE FOREX FOR YEARS. THE ONLY THING STOPPING THEM FROM ENTERING THE FOREX TODAY IS THE LAST SANCTION OPPOSED BY KUWAIT, AND THAT SHOULD BE CURED THIS MONTH.

NOW, IF YOUR CONCERNED IS THAT THEY WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY OUT ALL THAT MONEY IF THEY LOP THE ZERO’S; DON’T WORRY ABOUT THAT, BECAUSE IT DOES’NT MAKE THE DINAR WORTH ANY MORE, ALSO, THE PEOPLE WOULD REVOLT, BECAUSE THEY HOLD A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF DINAR AND ARE WAITING FOR THE REVALUE

THE ONLY CONCERN WE SHOULD HAVE IS IF THEY HAVE CIVIL WAR.

IN ANY COUNTRY THERE IS THE HAVE’S AND THE HAVE NOTS, JUST FOLLOW THE MONEY OF THE RICH AND POWERFUL AND YOU WILL SEE THAT THEY WANT THE RV, AND THAT INCLUDES THE POLITICANS.

Wouldn’t it be in Iraq’s best interest to simply ignore the Dinar value right now, since debts are being forgiven?

They can hardly claim poverty after an RV, right?

I’m hoping I’m wrong – what am I missing?
