Memorial Day post

Adam Montana

Before I even mention anything regarding Iraq, I want to express my deepest and most sincere thanks to all vets. You are all responsible for the freedoms I enjoy, and I personally thank you each for your services. I will be taking time today to remember and I’ll also remind others to remember… we would not have what we have without the sacrifices of the brave men and women who fought for it.

Thank you all.

On to Iraq – it’s a holiday weekend here in the US, and I know many of you are spending time with your families – as you should be! I’ll keep this brief.

Of all the things that are good for us as Dinar Investors, which comes to mind first? Peace, stability, economy, inflation, … ? It doesn’t matter which comes first, they’re all important. This one blows my mind, though:

Iraq Central Bank: core inflation in Iraq is reduced to 3% …

Data showed the central bank said on Saturday that the rate of core inflation in Iraq and the continued slowdown in April, falling to three percent on an annual basis from the three point six percent in March.

THREE percent. The goal was less than 10%, I think they have this one pretty well under control!

Another MAJOR issue is the re-denomination / lop / slicing zeros issue. People love to point at ONE article that came out a few months ago discussing the removal of zeros… but there is more than enough articles out there to contradict it that I’m personally not concerned with a “lop”. For example, this article:

The government denies any change on the local currency
30/05/2010 11:06 30/05/2010 11:06

Baghdad, May 30 (Akaniwz) – Iraqi government denied the outgoing Sunday rumors, which was launched on Saturday through a number of media for determination cancellation of three zeros from the currency

This was, of course, hot on the tail of an economist’s statement that Iraq needs to make major changes. “Radical reform”, to be exact.

“Iraqi currency needs radical reforms that commensurate with location of the country,” economist says

The Iraqi situation needs radical reforms in the coming period, in line with foreign currency to support the local market, the oil situation and economic development in the country,” an Iraqi economic expert said on Saturday.”The next stage requires activating the role of the government to make radical reforms to the issue of financial currency and how it fits with the value of foreign currencies, particularly the euro and the role in moving the Iraqi market,” Ali Kahiachi said.

If these three articles don’t get you excited – you may need to check for a pulse! ;) Feel free to leave comments, and I’ll be back with more soon!

Best regards and Warm RV wishes,

- Adam Montana

I’m not sure what you are all reading, but this is a far cry from being positive.

They know something needs to be done, but its not going to happen for quite a while until the politics are settled and a major portion of parliament seats are filled.

Also it may be debatable, but they feel there are too many dinars in circulation, even if current inflation is only 3%.

Much is unknown and in doubt. I wouldn’t spend your money just yet!

Don’t apologize for sending good news on a holiday. You can wake me up in the middle of the night for RV.

My father volunteered for WWII and was stationed in his home state. It could have been very different. I grew up in the era of peace and prosperity in WWII’s wake. Too young for Vietnam, then too old for later conflicts. Thanks for all of you serving our country not knowing the future.

Hello Adam. I have to say I was moved closer to optimism about the LOP issue. Before your websight I longed for positive news about Iraq. The I hate Bush crowd seriously missed the hope of success toward a more stable Middle East. Although my personal feeling is that mainstream Arabs are united in one thing only. To eliminate Israel… I think people in general see that. So I don’t expect that hate thing to go away any time soon. I believe Iraq has now all the elements necessary for some form of democracy and independence. I also think Iraq was a good idea and is successful. Their is definatly reason for a positive portrayal. Another positive for Iraq would be to navigate decisions about currency revaluation with care, so as to not cripple their own economy. A clever idea may need to surface if not the LOP, what that will be is anyone’s guess. I’m sure the IMF already knows what it will do and probably has known for a long time. It’s very suspicious as it effects the quantity of investment. Why not ask the IMF to make a comment directly to investors. I know only what everyone else knows. Iraq must be stable, transparent and have satisfied its debt. I want to know more!

I served three tours of duty in Vietnam and it was more than 25 years before I EVER heard thank you for your service. ADAM you ROCK, and I appreciate ALL that you have done and try to do for us…and I ESPECIALLY appreciate the salute to all VETERANS…no one understands, appreciates and reverences the price of freedom like someone who has served in wartime. I lost many good friends and classmates in the war in VietNam who will not have a chance to taste the blessings of a positive RV or share the truth with their children and grandchildren…don’t complain today about anything…but thank every vet you know and every vet you meet for the freedom that you have TO complain…GOD BLESS YOU ALL…and especially ALL who serve and have served…

I don’t understand the Iraqi to English translations. I know translation is a problem, and is something you just have to get used to. There are English words there, but the words put together in a sentence don’t make any sense to me.

Hi Adam, The news seems to show change, not sure what change in Iraq, here is what I know from my step son who has been in Iraq two years come October then he will be done (I hope) He said when he was first in Iraq is was pretty much a bombed out mess, today there are paved streets and curbs side walks and in many places garbage service and many people driving very nice cars. still some bombing and attacks but way down from nearly two years ago.

According to a news report there are 12 million people in Iraq and 10 million have cell phones not great service but improving. The Iraq Government is working at infastructure as well as world trade and it will be interesting to see how the new parlement is set up,

Thanks Adam,
I also did 3 tours in Nam and when I landed at the airport I had to change my uniform in the bathroom in order to get through the crowd. You are right it is up to our generation and those who serve to make sure that kind of thing never happens to another serviceman. We are the greatest nation on earth and our service people deserve only the best. In honor and respect. One nation under God means United. Blessings to all who have and all who will serve this great nation.

Iraqi economist: decline of Euro will give Iraqi Dinar a major boost
Iraqi economist: decline of Euro will give Iraqi Dinar a major boost
Translated by IRAQdirectory.com – [5/30/2010]

Economist Basim Abdul-Hadi, confirmed that the decline of euro in global markets will have a positive and negative impact at the same time on Iraqi economy.

Abdul-Hadi said that the positive impact is the fact that all of Iraq’s foreign reserves are in US dollar, adding that the price of the dollar against the depreciation of euro will increase the purchasing power of the dollar, which will result in importing more goods through foreign swap and exchange prices, with the same purchasing prices especially goods from European Union.

The negative impact of the decline of euro is the effect on the price of oil, though the barrel of oil is priced in US dollar, but the link between the dollar and euro as two major currencies in the global economy, leading to the possibility of lower oil prices which affects Iraqi oil exports.

He noted that the decline of euro is not sharp, pointing out that the treatment methods pursued by the European Union are promising, through pumping subsidies of 120 billion dollars.

Adding that we are waiting for the impact of actions taken by the European Union and it’s reflect on the global economy and oil prices generally, because the long-term decline in oil prices (below normal rates) would affect the Iraqi budget.

Question,
I hold 3 million IQD in 25k notes. Should I try to go to a major bank and exchange them for smaller notes or is it a waste of time?
Please advise.
Thanks

I don’t understand the droppin of zeros. We have the 25k notes won’t they still be honored even if zeros are dropped? And if not what use we do, we have never invested in anything before and are clueless on this matter. We were told by a friend about the dinars and and investing in them I hate to think we waited all these years only to miss out because we have the 25k notes, these are the ones we were told to get. Sure would like some feed back on this.
