Middle of August, middle of Ramadan.

Lots of people are confused about Ramadan, thinking it is impossible to see movement during Ramadan. This is simply not true! For the last 7 years, not much has been accomplished during this period… but then again, not a lot of significant events happened at all!

Here’s what I mean by significant: Chapter 7, HCL, or successfully forming the new government. When we see one of those events in the news, then we’re talking “significant“! More on that in a second, first let’s define Ramadan:

As seen on wiktionary,

(Islam) The holy ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar (the Hijra), during which Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset; they also refrain from smokingsexual relations, and various other desires and emotions.

Ramadan ends Sept 11 this year. As you can see, the definition doesn’t prevent Muslims from making significant progress towards forming a new government.

Unfortunately, the very same people who are trying to move forward with a new government are the same ones that can’t just make a decision and move forward for the good of all! Here’s what we have today.

Speculation:

If we were to see a significant movement in any of the major issues, we could expect to see a change in the value of hte currency very soon. The three major issues are: HCL, Chapter 7, and the Forming of the Government.

Resolving either of these three major issues would be a huge breakthrough that could topple the wall blocking any movement on the value of the Dinar. Here are some examples:

When Chapter 7 is lifted, that will scoot the HCL onto the fast track for resolution, and the Government will fall in place in short order.

OR

GOI is formed successfully. This prompts trust and Chapter 7 is lifted. No Chapter 7 plus stable government equals a bunch of happy people, Hydro Carbon Law is settled and Iraq is a fully functioning country with a stable currency. Global demand for a piece of Iraq (the Iraqi Dinar and/or action on the ISX) raises, value goes up according to supply and demand.

OR

Any number of other scenarios can lead to the same result! There are also smaller pieces of the puzzle, such as the ISX.

My speculation: Once we see one of these key pieces fall into place, we’re about 30 days from watching the last domino topple and then we cash in. Did you get the Cash In guide yet? It’s right here. And it’s free!

Now let’s talk about Iraqi news.

Foreign Firms Keen to Invest in Iraq Banks

Iraqi banks might offer huge growth opportunities in the future for investors willing to take some risks, but analysts and investors say the industry needs to consolidate first and change its business model, according to a report from Reuters.

With violence ebbing from the peak of sectarian warfare in 2006/07, foreign firms and banks are making tentative approaches to the major oil producer, which was isolated for 20 years due to UN sanctions, wars and violence since the 2003 US-led invasion.

Iraq has signed multi-billion dollar oil contracts, plans huge infrastructure projects, and hopes to diversify its economy, opening the door to plenty of deals for banks if security improves further.

But officials say that Iraq first needs to overhaul a banking sector dominated by seven state banks and some 36 tiny private lenders with little interest in the overall economy.

Investors eager to win contracts in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – Foreign investors eager to win contracts to rehabilitate Iraq’s idle factories are delaying decisions due to a lack a government five months after an election, a deputy industry minister said on Tuesday.

Iraq is trying to shake off the legacy of years of violence, sanctions and economic decline by opening up its financial and industrial sectors and luring foreign investment and expertise to help it rebuild.

Reuters: Iraq’s Allawi says to intensify talks with Sadrists

Posted Image

BAGHDAD, (Reuters) -Former Iraqi premier Iyad Allawi said on Tuesday his Sunni-backed Iraqiya alliance would intensify talks with an anti-American Shi’ite movement to try to break a political stalemate.

Iraq has been in a political deadlock since a March 7 election which produced no outright winner, raising tensions ahead of an end to U.S. combat operations this month and fuelling concerns of a return to widespread violence.

Thank you very much Adam for this update. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
As you have said `this is Iraq`. We have to be patient and at some point in time these issues will be resolved, albeit at a slower pace than we would like but resolved they will be. The Iraqi Dinar WILL revalue, of that we may be sure so Adam we`ll patiently wait for the good news whenever that may be. :-)

We keep hearing that the RV will “happen soon”, and “this is the year”, and “it won’t be long now”, “things are progressing”. I’m anxious and hopeful but I doubt that it will happen anytime soon or even this year. I just hope that it does eventually happen and I didn’t throw my money away on souvenir money from Iraq.

  3. avatar Greg says:

I agree with your selection of obstacles preventing Iraq from moving forward including the RV, BUT you forgot one that has been in the way for the past 4 1/2 years: Nouri al Maliki, where in the world would a defeated Prime Minister be able to hold onto power SIX months after losing an election and continue to hold his country hostage to a do nothing government?

  4. I was trying to log on to the VIP web-site but I don’t know what user name I used ..the password is OK I then tied to reregister..but was told I am a member..but without the user name…I can’t log on …I tied also going to the forgotten password page…that didn’t work either!! HELP!!!

    GO IRAQI RV

  8. avatar Artists and Writers says:

All very well and good, and thank you for staying on top the political developments, as well.

However, I am not looking to Baghdad any time soon for a decision to RV the Iraqi dinar. Only when the four Special Drawing Rights partners of the IMF in Washington are sufficiently confident in both the economic and political stability of Iraq after we have finished pulling out our armed forces, will they actually decide to pull the trigger and give the go-ahead on any revaluation of the currency. The decision to do so will not rest unilaterally with Baghdad.

Look not only to Washington first, but also look to see which foreign currency traders abroad are buying and selling Iraqi dinars and in what volumes out side the CBI, or Central Bank of Iraq. This will serve as your bellwether, leading the flock.

Adam, thank you for the update. I believe the rv will be soon. What about the Vietnam Dong?

  14. avatar Pat L. says:

I may be wrong but didn’t the talks break off because Maliki called Allawi an inappropriate name? Are these the men that are going to rule a country. The Iraqui people are living under the poorest conditions waiting for a government to form so they can have food, water, electricity. jobs, etc., and their leaders are fuming over name calling. What about the old adage “sticks and stones…” Move ON!!!

  15. avatar Tracy Ferrall says:

I cannot blame the Iraq people for moving so slowly. Every time they try to make a change there is an out burst of violence. I cannot imagine what that must be like for them. I think they are extremely courageous people and need all the prayers we can send them for the country to move forward.

  16. avatar Nadia Shaya says:

Although I am very optimistic about the future of Iraq, and the Dinar, nothing surprises me about my Country or my people! I will continue to pray and believe that one day soon, we will have peace and as Americans we will prosper from the Dinars. Insha Allah!

I just started investing about 2 months ago and my first dinars were green and the ones I got yesterday are pink?? Does this mean my first ones are no good? That may be a dumb ? but I am really new at this.

  21. avatar Grant Hardy says:

I don’t see Kuwait letting Iraq out of the chapter 7 conditions unless Iraq stumps up with some very serious cash. The rhetoric between between them seems co-operative but remember Kuwait took the opportunity to seize an Iraqi plane( probably ex Kuwaiti) on its maiden voyage to the UK this year. They are clearly still hot about the cost of destruction and theft from the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. Iraq did a lot of damage to Kuwait and stole a lot of gear, some of which they still have not returned. Clearly something will trigger the release of the fixed value of the Dinar but I personally don’t expect the Dinar to rise dramatically but see more of a steady rise as they get on their feet and speculators create a bullish environment. Iraq seems to have a very bright future and I have invested a sizable sum because of it, but I urge caution not to get too excited and expect a big boom and fast payout. Be patient, Iraq’s like the old wild west, largely undeveloped but with loads of potential for growth.

  22. avatar suanee says:

i have faith that the dinars are coming! god is with me and he’s going t0 help me!

    Adam:

I spent 3 years in Iraq, from Fullujah to Erbil. I still have contacts over there who advised several Iraqi Banks are being build, one large Bank in Baghdad across from the Main Post Exchange (PX). Yes Iraqi’s move slow, but they do move (especially the Kurdish People) and that is a good thing for all of us who are commenting and patiently waiting for the RV. Once this is done, this will quite all the skeptics who has commented on this and past blogs. Adam Thank you for your constant updated information. GO RV.

I second or third the idea of bigger players. Local govs are today for (show and) administration only; of agendas which have been given to them.
These bigger players ultimately want a cashless system.
All this is transient. But I’ve been waiting since around 2006…
To bad for yous that I invested as I’ve never had one come though. Must have bad karma or something.

  30. avatar jon says:

According to a report on that was shown on February 6, 2010 on Al Iraqiya TV channel, the Central Bank of Iraq considered a plan to redenominate the Iraqi dinar in order to increase the strength level of the Iraqi currency, which will allow people to carry less paper money. Mudhhir Muhammad Salih, a member of a Central Bank advisory panel, told RFI that the plan is to remove the zeros from the currency and phase out the current banknotes late this year. This will be while the old banknotes will be gradually removed from circulation. He did not specify when the new notes would be issued. Both will be legal tender in Iraq until the old notes are completely withdrawn.”

On May 3, 2007, the IMF released a statement in relation to the international compact with Iraq, which has turned the tide in regards to speculation on the Iraq dinar. The contents of the article discuss changes made in Iraq on the economic front of how the Iraq government had eliminated fuel subsidies. The article also stated that the Central Bank of Iraq had raised interest rates in an attempt to allow a gradual appreciation of the dinar in an attempt to fight dollarization of the Iraq economy. Although there are claims of widespread optimism of some language used later in the press release among some dinar speculators, there have been no publicly released statements or analysis by any news sources or governments.[5]

Since the introduction of the new Iraqi Dinar in 2004 after the fall of Sadaam Hussein, dinar speculators have resorted to private dealers to buy and sell the Iraqi Dinar because there is no public market for the Iraqi Dinar. Currently, dealers registered with the U.S. Treasury as a Money Service Business sell dinars for around $1100 per 1 million IQD.[6] It is yet to be seen how much of a return dinar speculators will receive.

we will all be lucky to get back what we put in.
