Because the IRS says so. It’s spelled out pretty clearly on their site… any profit over $300 is considered income and taxed at normal income rates.
I have had dinars since i return from iraq in 04…I have read adam’snewsletters and such. To reply to taxes….I have FACTUAL proof that you can exchange up to 5-10,000 currency credits into dollars at ANY money exchange at any intrnatioal airport that has one…without fees!!…that is of course…you wish to travel to an airport every week or so.

Iraq and Kuwait have resolved all items on their Chapter with the UN and have a few items that need to be resolved but do not need UN ratification. Iraq is not waiting for Kuwait to help them get out from under UN santions rather they are seeking assistance from Russia to end the UN santions so at this time Iraq is awaiting and invitation from Russia so they can discuss the help Iraq needs from Russia.
What gives with some of these issues? I think it’s been ~ a year since I checked in to see if we’ve made any more progress, and it’s like deja vu all over again…
1) UN Chapter 7 sanctions are being lifted (but not really)
2) An HCL agreement is reached, only needs ratification (but not really)
3) The GOI is fully seated and operational (but not really)
I can tolerate virtually any rate. Just pick one and go. I can tolerate the daily shooting/bombing. That’s how they roll, and don’t expect it will change for another generation or two (if even then). It could stop if they get a strongman in there that starts executing anybody (and their families) for messing with the “peace”. But they already had that. He was called Saddam Husein. Their government seems to have taken a crash course from the US Congress in how to get busy ignoring the most important things they could possibly do.

Mr. Montana, I can think of three situations regarding the Iraqi Dinar:
1) That the IQD revalues without deliting the zeros. How can we cash in the IQD?
2) The delitions of the ’000 and issuance of a new IQD. How can we exchange the old IQD for the New IQD and cash-in ?
3) a Redenomination that is a new IQ@D exchanged for new IQD. How can we obtain the new IQD in exchange for the old IQD?
I understand there are many other ways of the Iraqi Gov./CBI dealing with the RV.
Your answer to these questions may bring a lot of peace of mind to many Dinarians.

I really do not understand why you keep posting the RV rate at 10 cents to a dollar. Are you really in the “know” or what? Even the Dong is expected to reach the 10 cent level. It is absolutely rediculous to think that it would not at least RV at the Kuwait fiqure. If this is your intel, PLEASE STOP, your giving me a headache!
It will be in Iraq’s best interest to come out at a lower rate than Kuwait. They will make a ton of money over night by doing so. Even after the RV they will still auction off currency at the then posted rated. They will make money buying it back and reselling it over and over again, If they gradually keep moving the value up over lets say a 3 year period, each and every time they do so it makes them a ton of money in return. So you see it wouldnt be in their best interest to just come out to where they were at 3.22 for an example…

I talked ot someone in my bank and they said they don’t know anything about it. I’m in Canada and my friend inm Australia has the same problem. We had someone that was taking care of this for us, but turned out to be a big baby and sent us the cash to deal with it ourselves. Adam, I never look for something for nothing, however I’m 86 and worse than broke, with my old age severe heart problems. Several years ago when I had a little extra cash I bought 3 million dinars and just hope that I can cash in if and when that time comes so to help my wife of 60 years when I go. Regarding the comment from the person who questioned the ‘taxable event’ – I am an accountant and figured that this was an investment subject to capital gain treatment – am I wrong?
There is argument to be made on both sides – but most CPAs and Tax Attorneys agree that this will fall under regular income, not Capital Gains.

The one disturbing thing I heard in all this was that it’s a con; by our neocon thugs surprisingly. Or rather, these very same folks behind the bailouts etc. It’s simply another attempt to amass more funds via trickery (from the usual victims).

Hey Adam, I always read your chats on dinar vets and catch the re-runs on dinar recaps, and like your opinions…althought on recaps there is no substance from 98% of their mod’s or people in the know. .. hype and hear say does not do anything for me.
Beyond that, I’m a small investor in the Dinar (just a few mil) and look at it like any other investment. Like a mutual fund if you will.
Select Equities and precious metals are more viable to me as an investment since the “Fed” is printing and metals are likely to increase dramatically over the next few years.
The Dinar is more of a “remote” money play for me. Hey if it happens great…if not, one better have other investments working. People forget they better have balance in investing….or disappointment and heartache occurs.
One certainty is Iraq does not have to revalue their currency, and the good Dr Shab conveyed that in Sun Valley last year……you can access the notes from that meeting last Aug.
Anyway, no real reason to re-value, as a diluted currency is not that “detrimental” or uncommon for a war torn and/or rebounding economy. I tend to believe while oil prices and other commotities are increasing in price, Iraq makes more $$ as a result on those commodities as exports.
3 reasonable possibilities:
1. Quite frankly, I am not sure of the lopsters theory, although it is somewhat logical.
2. On the other side, there might be a real good chance that this currency will increase in value…slowly, not an RV, but an increase over time.
3. Thirdly an RV would be fantastic, and we can all enjoy the capital gain, apply for a dual residency and live in Panama, or Costa Rica for awhile and have an offshore account to reduce exposure

You can’t “rejoin” after the RV – I would have a logistical nightmare if I allowed people to join after the RV. Once the doors are closed, they are closed.
So having a few million in dinars is a small investment. I’ve no where nears that much. One of the reasons I didn’t buy more was that I came across a reasonable math exercise on a possible rv. Forgot the numbers but it came out as a ludicrous figure. Akin to the profits spouted at say hyip’s with their lure of “compound interest” (anyone remember PIPS!? ouch, I do). To meet the demands of all of us would create a majorly significant impact in general terms. There’s Kuwait to consider. Did the same thing happen there? I’m guessing there’s vastly more holding dinars.
Let’s not shoot the messenger but who else gives these kinds of updates?
So when they tax it because its counted as income, how much of it is taxed? like 10 percent? or something ridiculous like 50 percent or more?
The tax will probably be based on your income level. Per the IRS, anything over 178k will be taxed at least 33% on the Federal level. You also have to pay state taxes, AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) and whatever else they feel like dinging you for at the current moment.
One must stop and think… “Do I REALLY want to pay all this money? Should I MAYBE find some alternative options?”

I too asked a fellow dinar investor why he joined the VIP. He tried to sell me on the info one receives and once the RV hits, Adams atty’s will take his dinars and cash them in.i ASKED, HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU’LL GET ANYTHING BACK? hE SAID HE DIDN’T KNOW. Foolish? YOU BET!

Rob, your friend needs to learn to read. None of my programs or strategies involves or even suggests that you lose control of your dinars. Never has, never will – all of my suggestions are the exact opposite, in fact! I encourage EVERYONE to retain complete control of their investment at every possible step.

With the RV possibly being .10 cents on 25K Dinar…….. will it possibly be a higher value if you were to own 5K Dinar when the RV happens? I know its all speculation but just wanted your thoughts from your comments on the Iraq government will try to protect their exposure when it happen.

Hello Adam just had a question …. How do we really know that the dinar will really rv how do new investors believe that this whole thing isn”t a scam for many of the dinar dealers to make money.. I’m just asking not saying you are scaming people.. I mean really how do someone in the US know what’s going in Iraq…. How do you supposed to believe when for MANY years people has called an RV….? Just asking
